Corporate Controller

The Museum of Sex seeks to hire a corporate controller.

OVERVIEW:

The Corporate Controller will guide the museum’s financial operations, develop and improve processes, oversee accurate execution and implementation of financial systems, and provide accurate and timely information to meet department objectives. The Controller must be able to take initiative, plan, direct, optimize, and manage the administration of all financial data generated from Museum operations in areas including exhibitions, store retail, bar, events, and product development. The Controller must have experience in/or the desire and flexibility to work in a creative, entrepreneurial environment that is growing in many directions at once. 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Oversee all accounting functions.
  • Manage reconciliation of all significant account activity.
  • Monitor and audit internal financial controls associated with the income stream (cash handling, revenue posting, package handling, adjustment posting), records retention and storage.
  • Analyze Profit and Loss statements for all businesses.
  • Oversee reconciliation of general ledger accounts and bank statements.
  • Develop and review all the accounting policies and procedures as well as the internal audit.
  • Prepare financial forecasts/budgets and/or cash flow projections as well as year-end audit with issuance of annual report.
  • Ensure businesses compliance with policies and procedures and all applicable laws, local, state and federal taxes.
  • Review and/or complete month end Financial Statement closing and preparation including JE posting and checkbook review.
  • Supervise general accounting staff as necessary.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Experience: 7 years of experience in related organization
  • Minimum Education: BS/BA degree, with concentration in accounting/finance. CPA/CMA a plus
  • Preferred Previous Type of Company: Museum/hospitality/tourism/technology/retail industry

Special Experience, Qualifications and other comments:

  • Extensive knowledge and proficiency of QuickBooks Pro or equivalent accounting software standards.
  • Excellent verbal, organizational and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working in a small, entrepreneurial environment with multiple divisions.
  • Small business startup experiences a plus.
